How would you finish the story of the restaurant called “The Blue Lobster?”

by Yancey Grantham

Blue Lobster by Leslie Ricker

Blue Lobster by Leslie Ricker

The Blue Lobster

That is how it starts, simple enough, “The Blue Lobster.” Virginia DeBolt who runs the About First 50 Words starts the story with, yep, the first 50 words.

Her story is about the beginnings of a restaurant. How would you finish the story? Use her comment form to show your next 50 or so words.

There really are blue lobsters. Apparently, the blue is caused by a genetic mutation that causes an excess amount of protein to be produced.1

This is what I wrote but you will have to go to First 50 Words to see the beginning.

During the discussion of money we got a call from Gordon Ramsay saying that he would be willing to back the restaurant.

He heard about the adventure and agrees that any placed called “The Blue Lobster” should have the blue boy front and center. He just wants to make sure we don’t server the blue lobster until we offer the dinner on ebay. Blue Lobsters are very rare.

  1. Retrieved from Wikipedia Website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_lobster Around one in two million lobsters is blue. A research study conducted by Professor Ronald Christensen at the University of Connecticut discovered that a genetic defect causes a blue lobster to produce an excessive amount of protein. The protein, and a red caratenoid molecule known as astaxanthin, combine to form a blue complex known as crustacyanin, giving the lobster its blue color. ^ Dennis Hoey (2005-05-04). “Professor finds key to rare lobster color”, MaineToday.com Website: http://travel.mainetoday.com/news/050404blue.shtml []

Blue Ridge, Elmore County, Alabama, USA – Blue Place – City

by Yancey Grantham

Blue Ridge is a city in Alabama, USA. It lies just to the East of Highway 231 or the Wetumpka Highway. It is just to the South of the city of Wetumpka.

The city of Blue Ridge, Alabama is located about 20 miles to the North of Montgomery Alabama. It is to the Northeast on the way to Jordan Lake Reservoir. Tucked a little back off the main road, Blue Ridge has 400′ hills scattered around it.

The 2000 census showed 1,331 people occupied this 8 square miles of territory. Over 95% of the population is white and 30% have children. At the time, only about 1.1% were living below the poverty line.1

Blue Ridge, Alabama, USA shows up in two places on Google Maps. Show below with the marker is place number one on Highway 231 or Highway Wetumpka. The City of Blue Ridge is also off of Jasmine Hill Road.

Take Old Jasmine Hill Road and pass the Blue Ridge Baptist Church and in these “Blue Ridges” you will find the second Blue Ridge of Google for Blount County Alabama.

Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65 on Europop – Blue Music

by Yancey Grantham

Released by the group Eiffel on the CD Europop in 1999, Blue has become a song that millions have heard and tried to sing along and hundreds have remixed.1

If you read the lyrics you will find it is just a little story about a little blue guy having his usual blue day.2

If you have ever tried to sing along I would strongly suggest reading the chorus lyrics slowly and carefully one time, then you might get it right while singing.

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee
Da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di3

When I looked for Eiffel 65 Blue on YouTube I found quite a few videos. The first one has over 7.5 million views so I think it is the bands version. There are several other video versions as well as people have taken the music and created a new video for it.

Creative individuals have also sampled the music into their computers and “remixed” the song in their own unique way. I laughed when I saw that a lot of the videos were of the audio mixing program playing the remixed version showing the “bouncing ball” on a time line. Some of the mixes are good, a lot of them are….

Add to the 7.5 million count by watching the video below.

Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65 on Europop

Yo listen up here’s a story
About a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees
Is just blue
Like him inside and outside
Blue his house with a blue little window
And a blue Corvette
And everything is blue for him
And his self and everybody around
Cause he ain’t got nobody to listen

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee
Da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee
Da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di

I have a blue house with a blue window
Blue is the colour of all that I wear
Blue are the streets and all the trees are too
I have a girlfriend and she is so blue
Blue are the people here that walk around
Blue like my Corvette, it’s standing outside
Blue are the words I say and what I think
Blue are the feelings that live inside me

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee
Da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee
Da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di

I have a blue house with a blue window

I have a girlfriend and she is so blue

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee
Da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di

Inside and outside
Blue his house with a blue little window

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee
Da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di

This one has been watched over 2.6 million times.

I watched Spongebob and a shark sing blue but it was not very interesting. This one had me laughing though:

The Blue Da Ba Dee by Eiffel has been sung in the Sims. The Sims Sing Blue. There were 12 Sims Blue Videos.

Let’s break it down a little, here is a piano keyboard tutorial for Blue (Da Ba Dee).

If you just can not get enough Blue, search YouTube video for

  • “Blue 65 mix”
  • “Blue Eiffel remix”

One more time for those of you who now have this song stuck in your head. :)

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee
Da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di3

I’ve got to stop now, I’ve heard that song way too many times now!

Navi’s Side Panel by Rush Nerd aka Andrew Watson – Top Blue Gallery

by Yancey Grantham

The blue light slips through the slots illuminating the night, showing off its life. The light is proof of life in this computing machine. With help from it’s carbon master this machine, who the master calls Navi1 will grow and become more advanced as they both grow more powerful with knowledge.

This light breathing computing machine was built by Andrew Watson, who also took the picture “Navi Side Panel.” When I asked him main purpose for the machine he replied “I do love to game, and while there’s nothing this computer can’t handle, that’s not it’s main purpose. I do literally everything on my Navi. I do a lot of track recording and audio mixing, video production, and a ton of photoshop! It’s really the central hub for all my art/expression.

Andrew’s art and expression have expressed themselves with the creation of this computing companion. Creating the housing box in his way took a little effort. Andrew said “This was not nearly as simple as I thought it was going to be. I had to buy special metal cutting blades for the jigsaw I was using. After the bulk of that was cut, I used a large file and angle grinder to smooth things out. Then I cut a window on Plexiglas to fit and perfect fit!

The picture “Navi Side Panel” didn’t come easily either. Andrew bracketed more than 10 shots to get this one.

Yancey: What do you like about your photograph?

Andrew: The pressed vent holes with the cathode tube bleeding through them creates an interesting effect, almost giving life to big jumble of wires and metal. The vents broadcast their image on my walls, giving my machine an almost omnipresent feel.

Yancey: When I look at the photograph I see contained energy, the picture is so vibrant blue it seems full of energy. I also like how you worked the depth of field. How hard was it to get this photo working with the new digital camera?

Andrew: I like to think of depth of field combined with repetition to be my trademark, I love the feel and look of “infinity”. Granted I don’t have a top-notch camera, I did find it hard to take these pictures without blasting too much light into the lens. You can even tell in that photo where the rays are creating some interference with the lens.

I can see what Andrew means on the depth of field. I too really enjoy shots with repeating features that help to emphasize the changes. Also, look at the picture again and see if you can see the lens interference he is referring to.

Andrew has been experimenting with a new digital camera after having a great experience with traditional photography. I asked him some questions about how he has handled the film to digital transition.

Yancey: What do you dislike about the camera and what do you like about it?

Andrew: Lens size, Lens size, Lens size! I strongly prefer SLR cameras as that’s the platform I learned on with film. But this Canon has enough features and decent enough quality for me to bring great pictures to the table.

Yancey: What do you miss about your old camera and what not miss about your old camera?

Andrew: I’ll answer both those questions in a word, film. It’s expensive, a pain to wait on and can be unreliable. Yet nothing can match an analogue picture, and overall I would prefer it. But hey, I’m lazy and a nerd so digital cameras suit me just fine.

It’s like the preference for Vinyls over CDs.

But while Andrew and I were talking, Navi was listening, quietly, with just the fans humming. I wonder what Navi was thinking. I wonder when Navi began to start thinking. Oh well, as long a Navi believes that the master is needed, all will be well. The cold cathode blue tubes continue to breathe.

The meme2 of the living machine has turned into teme, technology memes.

Susan Blackmore explains memes and temes:

Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Wetumpka, Elmore County, Alabama, USA – Blue Place – Church

by Yancey Grantham

Wetumpka Alabama has a Blue Ridge Baptist Church. It’s at the corner of Old Jasmine Hill Road and Jasmine Hill Road. I wonder if there is any jasmine around?

If you are coming up 231 from the Willow Springs area, take the Jasmine Hill Road exit, it about a mile up the road. The road will turn North as you are about half way there.

Google has the city of Blue Ridge, for which I am guessing the Blue Ridge Baptist Church was named, North on Jasmine Hill Road about a mile and a half where the road turns towards the East.

JetBlue Airways Corporation – NASDAQ: JBLU – Blue Business

by Yancey Grantham

JetBlue Airways Corporation is a NASDAQ traded airline company that was established in 1999 and is headquartered in New York City. JetBlue has 141 airplanes and flies to 53 destinations.1

The airline is currently struggling with the high cost of fuel and increased operating costs. The CEO, Dave Barger took a 50% cut in his 2008 base pay to try to help stem the losses. Prices of fuel have increased 83 percent since he began on the job.2

Just today, Monday August 4th, 2008, Jet Blue has announce that they will be charging $7 if you want to use a pillow or blanket. It comes with a $5 coupon for Bed Bath & Beyond but if you shop there regularly, you get coupons in the mail. As usual, you can not combine coupons so for regular customers to Bed Bath & Beyond, the JetBlue coupon is best left in the sky. Alaska Airlines has also started charging for blankets.3

The JetBlue web site has a nice Blue orange theme. They have a blue “points” card and even a ShopBlue where you can purchase all kinds of Blue items. They have toy airplanes of course but they also have shirts, drinking bottles, puzzles, airport play sets and even a hoddie for your doggie.

Are you flier or a jetter? Jetblue has a companion web site at HappyJetting.com. They reframe the experience to make “Jetting” sound more fun than just “flying.” You can take a test to see if you are a Flyer or a Jetter. They take the opportunity to show you the reasons why their product is superior.
